Mineo, Sicily, Italy, April 2015
In the region of Catania, Sicily, lies the biggest center for asylum seekers in Europe, "CARA" (Centro di Accoglienza per Richiedenti Asilo), near the village of Mineo. Over four thousand migrants live in this ancient village built initially to host families of US army soldiers, from a military base nearby. The center is built like a real village with its health center, nursery, administrative buildings, dining hall, stadium ... After what is often a dreadful crossing of the Mediterranean Sea, the survivors have to wait up to fifteen months to obtain a possible residence permit. Shops that are organized in the center of CARA Mineo
